Color is Coming!

Hi There Pepper peeps!

It’s that time of the semester again – long nights studying for tests, writing papers, art projects, lab reports.. we are on the brink of finals mah friends! Hang in there, and hug that pot of coffee (or whatever caffeinated bug juice gets you through) and stay awake, because you’re not going to want to miss what Pepper has coming! Our very own writers, designers and photographers have been hard at work in creating Issue #6, we can’t wait to share it with all of you!

Our theme is COLOR this time around, so keep your eye’s peeled for some vibrant Pantone’s to hit the shelves within the next few weeks!

Can’t contain the excitement? We can’t either :D So here is a refresher on primary and secondary colors:

Meeting Minutes 02.22

This week we all got together to start talking about the guts of our upcoming issue, Mystery & Unknown. Everyone had good energy and ideas, making the process pretty entertaining. Our mindset was fundamentally playing around with obscene and arbitrary subject matter to produce somewhat of a strange publication in and of itself.

You can download the Meeting Minutes here and see what we’ve decided to start working on. The time between now and out next meeting, which will be Wednesday, March 07th (the Wednesday before Spring Break) will be time to start putting things together for rough drafts and sketches. This way we can review everything we are making progress on and keep it going in the right direction. Plus, it will give us time to work on final edits over Spring Break and before we need to start working on the design/layout of the issue in the upcoming month.

If you have more ideas for content: articles or imagery or other things, just shoot us an email.

Thanks everyone!

Press Check: Check

Pepper Issue No.04 : Time is currently in production! Of course we needed to attend a press check with our wonderful GCM student printers to see the progress. Hats off to all of them for being such a crucial part to making Pepper possible. Give them a high-five if you see them around. If you weren’t able to attend, the print job is spot on. This week is going to be filled with 4 postpress processes: folding, binding, trimming and drilling.

If everything goes according to schedule you could be holding a copy of the new issue by the end of the week or early next week. Keep your eyes peeled for it around campus!

Timeline for Fall

We finished up the timeline for the semester’s work on Issue No.04 | Time. If you take a peek you can see that we don’t have much time left to get this whole thing together and ready for print. We still need all our content, we need it edited and organized, and then we need to put it all together for our printers to start their job.

All this needs to be done in the next month. No questions asked.

You can download the PDF calendar of the rest of October and Novemeber Here.

We will discuss in more detail everything we need to work on and the committees that will be working on each step. This issue is going to be great with all of you helping out. The more hands on it, the more personality Pepper has.

Great Idea!

Considering we have been talking about formats for our upcoming issue and where we can push it, I found this video to be completely appropriate. Novum pushing the limits on printing and postpress work to make something magical.

See where your imagination can take you if you just question what is possible?

Time to Let Them Know

The theme for Pepper Issue No.04 has been decided. We are going to be working the new issue around Time.

Time can pertain to many things: past, present and future; it can be a stop motion film, the seasons of the year, the evolution of Stout and the students, and much, much more.

The step we need the Pepper People to do now is get the word out! We need content for our magazine from our student and community members around campus. If we can get posters up, chalk messages down, professors talking and anything else we will get some buzz started. A month and a half isn’t a lot of time to put together a magazine so lets make this happen as a team.

If you would like to help out Pepper get the word out by designing a poster/flyer/leave-behind, doing some chalking, or simply talking to others around you, include this information:

Pepper Magazine Issue No.04 is Open for Entries

Entry is Free. If your piece is selected there is a $5 publishing fee. Fee goes toward your entry to the opening party at the end of the semester.

Stop Motion with Siggraph | Time

People are getting creative on campus. Join the Stout Siggraph team (even if you’re not a member!) for a “challenge night,” where you can learn how to make a simple but engaging stop motion film and compete for great prizes along the way. Learn everything from the equipment you need, to the sound effects you can produce. The meeting/workshop/challenge takes place on Monday, October 3rd at 6:00PM in Applied Arts 321.

This night of fun filled video production might be a big contributing piece in the new Pepper mag: an issue on Time.Looking at things such as the origin of the Stout student, where design was compared to where it is now, or the complexities of language and how it has developed our culture. How does Time affect you?

Here in the promo video for the “Valuable Prizes” you could win for the top stop motion films, along with an example stop motion video created by the Siggraph officers.

Cheers.
